There is something magical about Edinburgh. Something unique.
Its castle. Its architecture. A beautiful mix of History & Romance.
Before jumping on my trip I asked Hope, an Australian traveler living there at that time, and passionate about Scotland and its capital. She kindly sent to me a list of things to do… Today is my turn to share my favorites of this city. I picked up 5… (Hope’s Instagram is @hopereid_ worth the following)
5. National Museum of Scotland.
Interactive displays of technology, world cultures and science. A free activity located in the city center of Edinburgh, why not?
4. The Elephant House.
Opened in 1995, The Elephant House has established itself as one of the best tea and coffee houses in Edinburgh. Made famous as the place of inspiration to J.K Rowling, who sat writing much of her early novels in the back room overlooking Edinburgh Castle. I am not a Harry Potter fan but everybody told me I had to go so I did. And ironically, the favorite thing I like was the bathroom (over the display of cakes, yes!). Harry Potter fans wrote love messages to the author all around the wall “You taught me how to read, love and believe. Thank you JK Rolling”
3. The architecture…
… A beautiful mix between Romance and History. Pretty streets. Cute cafes.
It is situated in the centre of the city about 1.6 km to the east of Edinburgh Castle. Up there, you have a great view of the city and forget that you are actually in Edinburgh still. BREATHTAKING.
As much as I love traveling on my own, sharing experiences with someone you love is even greater. I met Georgie in France in Septembre 2014 – we were doing intercambio sessions every week, with me helping her with her French and her doing the same with my English. She is from Manchester and took the train to Edinburgh so we were able to meet up in this beautiful Scottish city and make more memories. Love it, and love you Georgie!
